The progression towards Middle Eastern dance was only natural for Kira, having danced salsa and meringue from an early age. In 2001 she began studying at home from videos, but soon joined classes with Amara and El Naar Haninah of Gaithersburg learning under their guidance for more than two years. Nadirah Nasreen of Rockville then became, and has been for the last two years, her teacher and mentor. In addition to regular dance study, Kira has attended workshops with Ansuya and Bozenka of the Belly Dance Superstars. Experimental and creative, she has furthermore worked with Tribal Fusion styles. An accomplished soloist, Kira has performed at such notable locations as the Casablanca, the Taste of Morocco, and the New Deal Café.

Kira is the most recent addition to Sahara’s Treasure, joining the troupe in 2009. Within the group she is recognized as a sophisticated seamstress, as she has always designed and made her own costumes. Sahara’s Treasure benefits greatly from her dedication and experience in costuming technique, and she is the creative mastermind behind several troupe looks.
